To John and Elise Herendeen, the difference is obvious. The couple is thrilled with their home in Mockingbird Crossing off Vanderbilt Beach Road after moving there from a three-bedroom, two-bath villa in East Naples.

“We were in a nice, little community, but it doesn’t compare to up here,” John Herendeen said.

Now, just a year-and-a-half after the Herendeens became the first owners in Phase II of Mockingbird Crossing, only limited opportunities remain for homebuyers in the gated D.R. Horton Southwest Florida community. Estate-sized lots in a peaceful setting offer privacy and serenity at prices that start in the high-$400s.

The Herendeens have plenty of space inside and out. They chose the 3,148-square-foot Easton floor plan, which offers three bedrooms, four-and-a-half baths and a three-car garage. They love having enough space to accommodate frequent visits from their family. They even have a dedicated room for their daughter and son-in-law, who utilize the upstairs bonus room as a bedroom.

“In addition to our master bedroom, we have two other bedrooms for our two grandkids, which feature their own baths,” Herendeen said. “Everybody has a bath.”

The abundance of space extends to the master suite, which features a large window that fills the room with natural light, a walk-in closet, a linen closet and a double-sink vanity. The island kitchen, dining room and great room are in an open design, perfect for entertaining and family gatherings. The spacious common area looks out on the sun splashed lanai, which includes a half bath for guests.

Mockingbird Crossing can accommodate families of just about any size, with eight additional floor plans ranging in size from 2,344 square feet to 5,350 square feet. Even with all its roomy features, the community still appeals to the cost-conscious. One of the things the Herendeens love most about Mockingbird Crossing is not having to pay for community amenities they wouldn’t use.

Instead, they enjoy making short trips to shop and dine at one of several new retail developments nearby.

“Ten years ago, this area was considered out in the country. Now it’s getting all the conveniences of anywhere in Naples, with nice shopping centers and restaurants,” Herendeen said. “It’s growing immensely.”

It’s not hard for them to get to well-known destinations, either. The Mercato is just a straight shot down Vanderbilt Beach Road, as is Vanderbilt Beach itself, which Herendeen said is reachable in just 35 minutes.

To learn more about the alluring convenience of Mockingbird Crossing before the homebuying opportunities run out, call sales agent Ellie Stevenson at 239-225-2600 or email SWFLonline@DRHorton.com.
