RFmondial Equipment for DAB+ Regular Operation in Austria

Hannover, 02.07.2018 – RFmondial equips RTG Radio Technikum GmbH with a complete integrated system solution for DAB+ Broadcast, Monitoring and Logging for its first DAB+ regular operation in Vienna.

Beginning of April, the platform operator RTG Radio Technikum started the DAB+ regular operation called CityMUX in Vienna, the capital of Austria. Therewith RTG ensures the broadcasting of digital radio signals for all radio listeners in Vienna and surrounding area and lays the foundations of the ongoing development of radio broadcasting in Austria. “This digital radio network is regarded as critical infrastructure, which should also transfer the Service Emergency Warning Functionality (EWF) and TPEG-traffic infor-mation,” Gernot Fischer of RTG Radio Technikum GmbH explains. “For that reason high reliability and system components of high quality standard were at top priority in choosing the network architecture.”
RFmondial provides the complete DAB+ system solution for broadcast operation, con-sisting of DAB ContentServer, DAB monitoring receiver and DAB archiver.
The RFmondial ContentServer (www.rfmondial.com/index.php?id=57&L=navtnyxbskbjz) is a highly reliable professional broadcast system for DAB based on Fraunhofer technology. It provides all data and audio services and offers all interfaces for a smooth integration into the broadcast chain.
RF-DAB (www.rfmondial.com/index.php?id=65) is a professional DAB monitoring receiver for transmitter, content and field monitoring. It features parallel full ensemble decoding of complete multiplexes including access to all audio and data services, as well as single frequency network (SFN) synchronization monitoring. „Its modular design enables flexible configuration for var-ious specific applications”, states Jens Schroeder, Managing Director of RFmondial GmbH in Hannover.

In addition, the RFarchiver (www.rfmondial.com/index.php?id=56) is designed for enhanced audio and multimedia services for digital broadcasting. The server based system is able to directly store one or several service or multiplex streams (EDI), and enables easy access to archived content to the second for multiple web users. The concurrent logging of multiple DAB data streams at important measuring points in the signal chain via the RFarchiver fulfills not only the legal requirements for broadcasting archiving, it facilitates even more troubleshooting and debugging in case of failure.
The new radio-standard DAB+ is characteristic for excellent audio quality and a large variety of program-accompanying additional information. The population of terminal equipment grows continuously, and the transmitter network of the national digital broadcasting expands in a constant manner.
