Keyword Research For Maximum Search Engine Traffic
Of course it would be nice for our web pages to rank in the top 10 listings on page 1 of Google for a search term that gets several million searches per month, but it is not very likely. Unless your website has a page-rank of 8 or 9, chances are it is not going to show up on the first page of Google for very generic, very high traffic search terms.
For example if I own a website that sells video games, I would probably be laughing all the way to bank if my site showed up within the top 3 listing when for the search term “video games” in Google, Yahoo, or MSN. My site would probably be receiving thousands of free visits every day.
Now let's come back to reality. Unless you are making of full time job of optimizing your website, and have invested years of hard work, this type of Search Engine Ranking will probably never come to fruition. Ok enough doom and gloom, now for the bright side. With a little research you can still get substantial free targeted traffic to your website.
The key is to optimize your web pages for those search terms that have relatively good traffic and very few competing sites. Wordtracker is an online service that allows you to find these very valuable keywords. You can purchase a one day subscription to their service for $7 U.S, which will give you more then enough time to dig up enough keywords to keep you busy for months, building optimized pages for your website.
The one day subscription to Wordtracker is a very small price to pay for all the free, targeted web site traffic that you could potentially be receiving by doing some research, and optimizing each page of your site for one or two of these low competition keywords.
