The Middle East Logistics Awards (MELA) is gaining momentum as logistics industry players in the Middle East continue to cast nominations for the MELA Excellence Awards 2006. Organised and managed by Media One Group, the MELA Awards function is slated for November 21, 2006, in Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai, UAE. More than twenty prime category awards are to be conferred to the best organisations, institutions and individuals, who showed leadership and demonstrated the best practices in the logistics industry – air, sea, land and rail – in the entire Middle East region. The yearly MELA Excellence Awards are expected to challenge and at the same time encourage the logistics industry to be always at its best.Well-known industry experts and distinguished policy makers from government and private organisations covering the entire gamut of the logistics industry in the Middle East have extended their support to the MELA. Mike Lee, General Manager, Global Shipping & Logistics, Al Shirawi Group of Companies, and President, Supply Chain & Logistics Group (SCLG), has joined the MELA Executive Board of Directors. “The movement of products in the most convenient, appropriate and fastest way to reach the customers is what the logistics and supply chain industry is all about. The Middle East region has become a strategic hub for the logistics and supply chain industry. The industry is expected to grow by leaps and bounds in the years ahead. The MELA Excellence Awards is recognition of this and aims to honour the stellar performers in the Middle East logistics industry, aspiring to set the benchmark for performance excellence that each industry player should aspire for,” says Mike Lee.
Prakash K Nair, Manager - Network, Cargo Sales Development, Emirates, has extended his support for the mega event by joining the MELA Executive Board of Directors. “The logistics industry is highly competitive. It is highly demanding in the sense that products should be delivered on time and should be properly handled to ensure that its freshness and integrity are maintained so that consumers will get the superior quality they are always looking for. In essence, perfection in the execution of the processes involved in the supply chain becomes a necessity. The first annual MELA Awards will recognise this exemplary performance and set a benchmark for excellence in the logistics profession,” remarks Prakash K Nair.
The World Federation of Free Zones (FEMOZA) is supporting the MELA 2006 Awards. Juan Torrents, President, FEMOZA, comments, “The economic growth and development of the Middle East is a perfect example of the positive impact of free zones on regional economies. Free zones in the region now offers excellent logistics services and have become most sought-after investment destinations. The deadline for the submission of nominations for the MELA 2006 Awards is September 21, 2006. Nominations can be done online through the MELA website, www.mela.ae. Nomination forms are also available in the leading newspapers, and business and trade magazines in the Middle East.
