M-Scan - Mass Spectrometry Consultants and Analysts

From its inception in 1979, M-Scan have always been a forward thinking company. Its founder, Professor Howard Morris (FRS), saw the potential for the application of Fast Atom Bombardment Mass Spectrometry (FAB-MS) in the emerging biopharmaceutical industry and since then they have gone from strength to strength.

M-Scan now consists of over 70 staff worldwide in four laboratories and several marketing offices, M-Scan Ltd (UK), M-Scan Inc (USA), M- Scan SA (Switzerland) and most recently M-Scan GmbH (Germany). M-Scan have earned themselves an industry wide reputation for analytical excellence, employing the most advanced techniques and methodologies to solve the problems posed by an evolving industrial marketplace.

M-Scan’s area of expertise began with mass spectrometry and chromatography services to a range of industries, but has widened this greatly during the intervening 30 years, especially with the growth of commercial biopharmaceuticals. M-Scan now employ professional and skilled scientists from many specialities and can offer a wide range of biochemical services, from amino acid analysis through to full characterisation of an antibody. Recent advances have included M-Scan Ltd becoming the first UK laboratory to offer GLP/cGMP compliant Circular Dichroism analysis, along with the addition of AUC and SEC-MALLS to their catalogue of services.

Besides work for pharmaceutical clients, M-Scan provides specialist services to the environmental, chemical , and forensic science sectors and are equipped to analyse samples as wide ranging as Formula 1 racing fuels for the FIA, to contaminated land or seawater; even packaging leachables can be quantified and identified. One of M-Scan’s unique methodologies allows for petrol “branding” on a chemical level and in recent years this has proven to be of immense benefit to forensic investigations.

With its global presence, M-Scan is poised to continue leading the way in chemical and biopharmaceutical analysis well into the 21st Century and beyond.
