The city that never sleeps halted by monsoon pours

The recent pours in Mumbai struck commuters by sheer surprise. It has been everyone’s concern to travel locally during monsoon and unpredictability has created daunting apprehension. Though some find Mumbai pours mesmerizing, the working class commuters think contrary.

Alike gone years, roads and rail tracks are waterlogged again, somewhat validating by-now the inconvenience as one of Mumbai’s conventions. Since early June, roads in the city, but mainly in the suburbs, are waterlogged tampering easy traffic control. As of local trains, incharge personals have decided to lighten the number of train services due to flooded tracks and plausibility of engine damage. The number may recoil to normal conditioned lower rainfalls.

Air traffic was disrupted too. Almost 10 flights that were planned to land in Mumbai were diverted to neighbouring airports, which indicates the severity of this years rain. Since air travel demands are likely to drop, airlines may consider offering cheap flight tickets online.

Not many Mumbaikars were confronted by the force of this years rains, but the farthest suburban areas (around Thane) got a better taste as trees and brittle roofs were pushed over by the wind. Extreme cases include 3 casualties, two of whom were juveniles, in Bhandup; they were electrocuted. Power cuts also occurred in the same area. Hopefully, this years rains won’t threateningly challenge Mumbai’s resilience.

According to weather forecasts, Maharashtra and neighbouring states like Goa will see heavy rainfall from 6th June to 8th June. As far as Mumbai is concerned, rainfalls are expected to peak between 8th June and 10th June.
