Press release from: Telebehavioral Health Institute

4 June, 2018, San Diego, CA. Telebehavioral Health Institute (TBHI) is pleased to announce its strategic partnership with the National Association of Social Workers - Ohio Chapter to bring telemental and telebehavioral to its members. This large group of professionals can enjoy the many benefits of learning and networking through TBHI, an online learning institute devoted to the education and training of professionals wishing to develop the legal, ethical and clinical skills related to working with technology in telebehavioral health.

Dr. Marlene Maheu, a pioneer in the field of telebehavioral health and the founder of TBHI, said, "Brought back by popular demand, we are delighted to be bringing telemental and telebehavioral health to NASWOH and OPA for the second year in a row." Dr. Maheu also expressed her enthusiasm for this event by noting, ”These two associations partnered to bring us out to Ohio in 2017. Within a week of my return to San Diego, they called to ask me to repeat the experience in 2018 for the members who couldn’t attend last year.” Maheu continued, “I’m sure they will be pleased because since last year, our materials have been improved to meet the criteria set by the Coalition for Technology in behavioral Science (CTiBS) for telebehavioral and telemental health competencies.” She further explained, “Our 2-day workshop now covers all the essential competencies as augmented by real-world examples of their applications. This learning adventure now allows ample time for brainstorming; networking with like-minded, Ohio-based colleagues. Attendees will be given enough time to roll up their sleeves and dig into a wealth of hand-outs throughout the workshop to find practical uses for the information in their own worlds.” Maheu was excited to also share, “The event will also feature an hour of legal risk management focused exclusively on exposing the legal issues that may arise for untrained professionals who “wing-it” and practice without detailed professional training. This unique aspect of the TBHI Certificate training not only highlights the needed competencies to address legally, but also clearly demonstrates how to prevent them.”

Danielle Smith, Executive Director at NASWOH said “We are excited to be able to partner together with the Ohio Psychological Association and the Telebehavioral Health Institute to bring Dr. Maheu back to Ohio for our second training on Telebehavioral health. The future of mental health is online so it is crucial that Ohio practitioners have the skills, tools, and information they need to provide quality care to clients.

Michael Ranney, Executive Director of OPA said “One of OPA’s top priorities is to champion initiatives that support access to quality mental health care, and telehealth is a the forefront of this issue. We are proud to partner with the National Social Worker Association Ohio Chapter and the Telebehavioral Health Institute to welcome Dr. Maheu back to Ohio.
