Power Sportz Launched on May 19 Amid Much Fan Fare

In the august presence of many luminaries that included the Hon’ble Minister Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Retired Justice Shri Mukul Mudgal, and Hon’ble Vice Chairman of NADA Panel Shri Nalin Kohli among others, Power Sportz— India’s first digital sports news channel— went live at Vigyan Bhawan, in New Delhi, on May 19.

India as a country is very fond of sports and news. The channel promises an interesting package of blending sports and news, which would not only be relevant but also cater to all sections and age group.

The Power Sportz team, hailing from the best in the industry is all poised to roll out superlative sports content from its state-of-the-art studio and office in Gurugram.

An inspiration that blossomed into a reality

The idea of the channel was conceived three years ago in 2015, by its Editor-in-chief Kanthi D. Suresh, when an extensive research on Indian sports by her revealed that out of more than 1000 broadcast channels in the country, not a single one is dedicated to sports. She found that there exists a serious drought of a channel that talks only about sports in the country. This sparked an inspiration that led to the birth of a unique sports news channel-Power Sportz. Since then, much toil has gone into converting this idea into a reality, by Kanthi and her team.

An “emotional moment for all of us at power sports,” said Kanthi, speaking about the journey so far, during her speech at the launch, which is the result of relentless hard work by the Power Sportz team.

Although it is the first digital sports news channel in the country, the idea, however, was not original, mentioned Kanthi. Surprisingly, many people had earlier contemplated starting one but had to relinquish the idea because they felt that there isn’t sufficient content on sports in India.

This was even more confounding for Kanthi and her team to accept. With a litany of sports bodies in the country including the sports ministry, SAI, autonomous sports bodies like the Indian Olympic Association, state Olympic Associations, 50 recognized sports bodies, and several unrecognized ones, there should be enough scope for sports content in India. This is what she felt. And it proved to be true. Team Power Sportz not only stumbled upon an avalanche of sports content but also came across widespread anomalies that seem to smudge Indian sports. Drug and doping, match-fixing, betting, nepotism, corruption and much more, there is rampant irregularities that cripple sports in the country.

This is where Power Sportz, as India’s premier sports news channel would endeavor to plug the loopholes in Indian sports. Started with an objective to provide a platform to oppressed sportspersons in the country, the channel will lend its voice to anything related to sports, rightly justifying its tagline—the voice of sport.

In a country where the only sport that has a mass following is cricket, despite having a national sport in Hockey, the plight of other disciplines is fairly understandable. This is where, as India’s only digital sports news channel, Power Sportz intends to flex its muscle and throw its weight behind other sports in the country.

However, that is not going to be easy. In fact, running a channel of this magnitude would require a lot of resilience and tenacity to weather every storm, which would be plenty for sure.
