The Major Infrastructure Projects Set to Transform the ACT’s Future

Expotrade are thrilled to announce that the ACT Major Projects Conference is returning on the 28th and 29th of August, to showcase some of the territory’s largest and most vital infrastructure projects currently underway, many of which are thanks to the Government’s $2.9 billion investment in the Territory’s Infrastructure Investment Program.

The conference will provide key updates on these projects, in an effort to explore not only how infrastructure can positively impact the territory, but how it can help the Territory adjust to the population boom it is expected to experience in the near future.

A much-anticipated overview on the first stage of what will be a transformative transport system for Canberra, the city’s $707 million Light Rail Network, will be provided by the Stage 1 Project Director, Transport Canberra and City Services’ Meghan Oldfield.

Oldfield will update delegates attending the conference on the various opportunities and challenges that were conceived, and will continue to come about, throughout the duration of Light Rail Stage 1 and beyond.

Tara Cheyne, Member for Ginninderra, will be treating delegates to an in-depth outline of the various advancements set to occur within Belconnen, one of Canberra’s largest districts.

With improvements planned for the district’s road and footpath infrastructure, significant arts and culture facility upgrades, and the slated refurbishment of Belconnen High School, Cheyne will explore how urban renewal will help to shape Belconnen’s future.

The conference will also zero in on Canberra’s upcoming $300 million mixed-use development Constitution Place, comprising of two buildings linked by a Melbourne-style laneway, one of which will eventually house 1700 public servants. The laneway connecting the two buildings will be lined with cafes and shops, solidifying the project’s status as one that will strongly benefit Canberra’s economy, and create a host of jobs whilst doing so.

A panel discussion at the conference will explore, in great detail, how various forms of infrastructure can manage the ACT’s steadily growing population. ACT Division Executive of the Property Council of Australia, Adina Cirson, Rob Henry of Rob Henry Architects, and Member for Murrumbidgee Caroline Le Couteur will both participate on this panel, discussing alternative living solutions for Canberrians and the broader territory, and the impact that new housing typologies can have on transforming the locale.

Delegates attending the conference will be encouraged to network with one another at Expotrade’s innovative speed networking session held at the start of each conference day. A cocktail function held at the end of the first day will allow delegates to swap business cards in a relaxed setting.

After a brief hiatus, the 2018 ACT Major Projects Conference, held on the 28th and 29th of August at Canberra’s Hyatt Hotel, returns as a platform from which speakers and delegates alike can discuss, explore, and examine how their work on major infrastructure projects can positively impact the territory’s future.
