The AQM market is expected to witness the fastest growth in Asia-Pacific during the forecast period, mainly attributed to increasing prevalence of respiratory diseases, large-scale industrialization, and rising pollution levels in the region. According to the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, around 51% of the world’s lung cancer cases occur in Asia and 21% of cancer deaths in Asia are due to lung cancer.

Air pollution has become a major environmental concern in Asia-Pacific in recent years. The pollution produced by particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, volatile organic compounds, and tropospheric ozone is a big concern and challenge in countries in the region, particularly in developing countries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly seven million deaths every year occur because of air pollution and 70% of these deaths occur in Asia-Pacific. Air pollution has a huge impact on the food and water, and climate system of the region, as deteriorated air quality leads to acidic rains, which in turn has harmful effects on crops and animals. Combustion of fossil fuels is the prime source of air pollution in urban and industrial areas in the region. The burning of coal and biomass, such as firewood, animal waste, and agricultural waste, is the principal source of air pollution in rural and some urban areas of Asia-Pacific.
