Beach Safety Tips: Learn how to frolic in the sand and sea while staying safe and protecting your loved ones. Your guide to beach

Everyone loves going to the beach and frolicking in the sand and the sea. But whether you are going to the beach for the first time or you practically live among the waves, practising beach safety and understanding the dangers of those surroundings is important so that you can enjoy to your heart's content while also being safe and considerate of the well-being of your loved ones.

In this article, we shall outline some hazards of the beach that you should be aware of, along with some key beach safety tips and must-have items that will help you have the best time at the seaside, worry and hassle-free!

Understanding the Hazards of the Beach:

● Rip Currents: These silent threats are channels of water that flow beneath the surface, and are very powerful. These currents usually catch everyone off guard and pull even the most experienced swimmers and surfers away from the beach. The safest way to escape a rip current is to swim parallel to the shore until you can pull away, and to stay informed about tidal conditions before swimming in the sea.

● Sun Exposure: Sunlight is made up of UV rays, that are very harmful to the skin as they may cause sunburns, and premature ageing of the skin, and increased exposure could even put you at higher risk of skin cancer. Always protect yourself by applying and reapplying sunscreen of minimum SPF 30, wearing protective gear like sunglasses, hats, caps, etc., and staying in the shade as much as possible.

● Dehydration at the Beach: Dehydration in a place like the beach, with too much sun exposure, is widespread. To battle this, always ensure that you stay hydrated regularly, even if you may not feel thirsty. Additionally, avoid consuming large amounts of alcohol, as that can dehydrate your body further.

Now that we have understood the various hazards you may encounter, let us look at some essential tips and must-have items you must include in your carry-on when going to the beach!

Essential Tips and Must-Have Items for Your Day at the Beach

● Sunglasses: One of the unspoken rules of the beach is to always have your sunnies with you! Opt for sunglasses that are polarized or photochromic, so that your eyes are protected from harmful UV rays, while also making you look trendy!

● Antimicrobial Towels: Yes, you read that right! Instead of regular towels, try opting for anti-microbial, highly-absorbant, good for your skin and eco-friendly! By using an antimicrobial bath towel, you are not only protecting your skin from harmful bacteria but also using a product that is odour-free, self-sustainable, and cleans itself naturally, which makes it perfect for practising beach safety on that messy day at the beach with your family!

● Beach Shades: One great way to avoid excessive sun exposure and dehydration is to bring sun shades like a beach umbrella, tent or cabana to shelter you and your loved ones from harmful UV rays and give comfort and a relaxing environment on the beach.

● Sunscreen: Never forget to pack sunscreen! You should opt for separate sunscreens for the body and the face to ensure maximum protection. Always reapply your sunscreen every few hours, or after swimming, to ensure that it is still effective against the sun's rays.

● Water: As much of a no-brainer as this sounds like, most people forget the most important thing to take to the beach! Ensure that you take a cooler with multiple bottles of chilled water and other beverages to ensure that you do not get dehydrated and can enjoy the day lounging at the beach without getting fatigued or falling prey to sunstroke.

● First Aid Kit: It's always smart to carry a small first aid kit to tend to any minor injuries, especially if you are visiting the beach with kids. Carry anti-septic ointments, ORS sachets, pain relief medication and balms, adhesive bandages, etc., to tend to any emergency safely and effectively.

We hope this article allowed you to understand some of the hazards and rules of the beach, as well as note some must-have items to carry for your next trip to the beautiful cerulean seaside.
