Author Ethan Casey and Fawad Butt To Speak at World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh “Summer Seminar on World Affairs”

Casey is the author of the 2004 book “Alive and Well in Pakistan,” and frequently shares his experiences living and traveling throughout Pakistan. He has spent extensive time in the region as a journalist and educator, including a five-month stay in 2003 in Lahore, where he taught at Beaconhouse National University.
A leader in Chicago’s Pakistani-American community, Butt is a frequent speaker and an active philanthropist. His firm, Zeus Capital Advisers, is currently working to create new banking institutions in underserved ethnic and religious communities.
“The key to improving the perception of Pakistan, and its people, is to share first-hand experiences and build common understanding,” said Butt. “Bringing awareness of Pakistani culture and values to the U.S. and western world is vital to bringing peace to the region.”
Casey has spent the better part of a decade working to foster understanding and cooperation between Americans and Pakistanis. He spent several months this spring traveling throughout India and Pakistan, and is currently working on a follow-up to “Alive and Well in Pakistan,” scheduled to be released in early 2010.
“Seminars such as this are very important in helping mainstream America understand Pakistani culture, as well as demonstrate the many common values they share,” he said. “Pakistan is much more than what many Americans see and read in the news.”
