(openPR) - Flensburg/Germany, May 2009 – 2wcom GmbH presents its DSR01 Digital Satellite Receiver to be up to the DVB standard 100%. The DVB-S tuner module can now be fitted with a DVB-S2 tuner optionally. With this new option broadcasters are able to create transparent data streams individual, flexible and transparent to save bandwidth, reduce cost and gain revenue at the same time.

The conversion from DVB-S to DVB-S2 means maximum quality while utilizing the optimum bandwidth in the existing spectrum. The choice of the 2wcom DVB-S2 tuner makes it possible to use an existing DVB-S network and – if required – to switch over to DVB-S2 later on. Advantage of this tuner combination – both standards do receive low symbol rates of 128 ksym/s.

Further cost cutting potential offers the second audio output. It enables operators to decode two audio signals from one satellite signal - thus eliminating the need for a second receiver.

“Benefits for our customer - maximum quality at minimum cost, this is the product philosophy of 2wcom,” stated by Ove Kamentz responsable for the DVB development branch with 2wcom. ‘Our DVB product range has been designed for future applications. At present the DSR01 Basic handles the audio codecs MPEG1/2 Layer 1, 2, 3 as well as MPEG2/4 AAC LC, HEv1&c2 and AC3. The DSR01 has been set up in a way to implement future standards at low cost.

The DSR01 is not based on a standard PC solution but on a flexible DSP- and ARM processor solution with a real-time operating system. This guarantees the availability of 365 days / 24 hours. Network operators can be sure that even in case of a short power break down the DSR01 will be back on fully operational in approx. 3sec.

An additional advantage is the adjustable and stable audio decoding delay time in a range from 10 to 1000 ms – an absolutely must for an audio transmission in high quality. This feature enables broadcaster to adapt to any delays in former transmitting lines. A quality Ulrich Reuter, Program Distribution and Transmitter Network Operation, Deutschlandradio Kultur, Berlin, stated: „I do like the 2wcom DVB-S Receiver. Particularly the possibility to adjust the audio delay up to 1 second is a very important subject to us because of the adaption to other systems“.

The profile of the DSR01 will be completed by two audio and RDS outputs, a web interface for remote configuration and controlling as well as alerting any irregularity via SNMP. Especially SNMP is increasingly requested by broadcasters as an input for the Quality Control Management Systems”.

„Customers satisfaction and their individual requirements are our main concern and we will take this into our consideration for future DVB-T products,“ underlines Werner Drews, CEO of 2wcom. Focus of this year’s IBC in Amsterdam will be the 2wcom DSR02, which offers besides a Gigabit Ethernet interface many further highlights.
