Presentation of Schizophrenic Dr Austin Mardon to Alberta Legislature

(openPR) - (Edmonton) Austin Albert Mardon, PhD noted Antarctic explorer and native born Albertan will be presented to the Alberta Legislature by Hon. Clint Dunford, MLA at approximately 1:30PM today, December 1, 2005, in Edmonton from the Legislative Gallery. In 1986 Dr Mardon took the Alberta and Canadian flag’s furthest south on an Antarctic expedition to the Antarctic Polar Plateau where he was a member of a team that found over 700 meteorites that included several meteorites that originated from the Moon. He has suffered from schizophrenia and has been a volunteer with the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta for the last 13 years and in spite of this disability has been able to overcome this adversity and has made a substantial research and volunteer contribution to Alberta. He was just awarded the Alberta Centennial Award on November 22, 2005 by the Lt Governor for his volunteer and scientific contributions to Alberta. The Hon. Clint Dunford is recognizing his contributions as an advocate for the 1% of Alberta’s population that has schizophrenia by presenting him to the house today.
