Pressemitteilung von: The Forward
(openPR) - NEW YORK – November 15 – The Forward, American Jewry’s newspaper of record, has received two “IPPIES”, awarded by the Independent Press Association, for journalistic excellence.

The IPPIES are the only journalism awards that honor the outstanding work of New York journalists, photographers, graphic artists, editors and publishers of ethnic community press. They also honor works of journalists that publish in languages other than English. The IPA is a non-profit organization that promotes and supports independent publications committed to social justice and a free press.

J.J. Goldberg, the Forward’s Editor-in-Chief, received his accolades in the “Best Editorial/Commentary” category for Waters Rage. We are Afraid, which was published on December 31, 2004. In this opinion piece, Goldberg, provides an engaging commentary on how both the media as well as Jews observe and mourn tragedy in the wake of the Asian tsunami disaster.

Forward Diplomatic Correspondent Marc Perelman was recognized for “Best Investigative or In-Depth News Story” for his groundbreaking article, Children Forced to Become Killers, Sex Slaves in Forgotten Uganda War. In the April 1, 2005 story, Perelman recounts the tragic legacy of a little known civil war in Northern Uganda and its toll on the population, particularly its children, over the past two decades.

“We are particularly pleased that our leadership in covering Africa’s tragic and often genocidal agonies is being recognized by the IPA,” said J.J. Goldberg in accepting the Awards. “The Forward is truly distinctive in its focus on worldwide events that relate to the Jewish community and its concern for human rights worldwide,” he added.
