Deuterium Lamps

The lamp specialist Heraeus Noblelight has launched a mercury-free timer and new power supply for Deuterium Lamps at Analytica show in Munich in April 2008. Deuterium lamps are used in high value analytical instruments to test pharmaceutical drug purity, to monitor environmental contamination and to test for food composition. These applications demand critical performance in terms of reliability, accuracy and reproducibility. The application demands apply equally well to the deuterium lamps and their power supplies, as the consistency of the UV radiation from the lamp is an important factor for reliable measurement data. Modern deuterium lamps meet strict requirements with regard to noise, long term stability and operating life. Power supplies should be designed to match the variety of lamp operating conditions to ensure optimum lamp performance. Consequently, Heraeus offers its own range of power supplies, from bench top laboratory design to fully integratable OEM versions, all developed through its long experience with deuterium lamps.

New Bench Top Power Supply
The PSD 186 R&D Deuterium Lamp Power Supply is a high performance power supply and is compatible with virtually all 30 Watt Deuterium Lamps currently on the market. A completely new design incorporates state-of-the-art electronics.
The user can select heater voltages of 2, 2.5, 3, 6, 9, 10, and 12 Volt. In addition the LCD displays allow the user to select and monitor his own operating parameters. The new Power Supply features very low noise and drift characteristics. It is equipped with an Ethernet interface and MAC address for remote control via PC.
Heraeus power supplies distinguish themselves by the stability of their electrical parameters and by their ignition properties, which protect the lamps, improve operating life and ensure reliable starting. Instrument manufacturers can save the cost of developing their own power supplies and benefit from Heraeus’ experience as a lamp manufacturer, who is dedicated to ensuring the optimum performance of deuterium lamps.

New RoHS compliant time indicator – mercury-free
Heraeus has launched its new elapsed time indicator ETI 300 at the Analytica show in Munich. This patented timer is a small and inexpensive, low power consumption device to measure the operating hours of Deuterium Lamps and other lamp types.
Because of the new RoHS regulations the use of mercury has become limited for electronic devices such as timers. The new Heraeus ETI 300 mercury-free time indicator is the first one which totally complies with the RoHS directive.
The hours are shown on a 4 digit LCD display. It works on a purely electronic basis and was developed as a replacement for the widely used elapsed time indicators based on mercury electrolysis.
