| Pressemitteilung von: DRS Digitale Repro-Systeme GmbH | ||
DRS was presented with a difficult task by Bern's Inselspital hospital.The assignment was to digitize microfilm jackets in a special format. The Inselspital hospital in Bern has archived its medical history on 3.5 million microfilm jackets measuring 187 x 87 mm. In terms of medical treatment it is important to make these documents available when requested by doctors quickly and in high quality via the internal network. The Inselspital hospital was unable to scan these special formats economically with conventional microfilm scanners. In addition to this the quality of the microfilm jackets also proved to be a challenge. DRS has developed and produced a scanner precisely for this requirement profile with its DRS DIGITIZER. The system has been in use since 2004 and it has processed more than 500,000 documents to date. After scanning the documents in a high-resolution grayscale format and implementing quality control measures, the documents are converted into a binary format for storage and processing by using Software Image Prozess Pro from Giercke Software. These documents are transferred to a second computer system. The allocation of documents in a database system is conducted semi-automatically by comparing the digitized header data from the microfiche with the data in a digital patient directory. After comparison the data is transferred for storage. Approximately 15 minutes later they are available for viewing by the medical doctor requesting the file.
