EUREPGAP: New Board Elected and Sets the Way Forward |

The aim is to ensure integrity, transparency and harmonisation of global agricultural standards. This includes the requirements for safe food that is produced respecting worker health, safety and welfare, environmental and animal welfare issues. The first meeting of the New EurepGAP Board took place in Cologne/Germany on 10th January 2006. The Board was elected by EurepGAP members during December and has 4 retailer and 4 supplier seats. Board members are listed below : Retailer and Food Service Members Alfons Schmid (Ahold) Horst Lang (Globus) Johann Zueblin (Migros) Stephen Ridge (Somerfield) Supplier Members Benito Orihuel (Anecoop) Josse de Baerdemaeker (Brava /Lava/VBT) Steve Homer (Flamingo Holdings) Bert Urlings (Vion Group) Biographies of EurepGAP Board members with their contact details can be found at www.eurepgap.org/fruit/Languages/English/committees.html At the Board Meeting Nigel Garbutt was unanimously re-elected as Chairman of EurepGAP. Nigel Garbutt said, "The establishment of the EurepGAP board brings together the Governance of the various Good Agricultural Practice standards into one place and as such represents a major milestone in our 10 year history." Kristian Moeller, Secretary EurepGAP and Managing Director of FoodPLUS GmbH, the Global Body for EurepGAP added "The New Board Structure combined with technical committees with a clear Sector Focus means that we will have an even stronger industry representation during the standard revision process which continues during this year". The revised EurepGAP Standard will come into effect on 1st January 2007. The Board set a key goal at its first meeting to ensure that there is a wide and inclusive consultation on the revised standards so that they will meet the needs of the 21st Century consumer as well as reflecting the tightening of EU Regulation.
