Working together to effectuate the electronic filing and recording of land record documents such as deeds and mortgages in the state of Wisconsin, Simplifile, Racine County Register of Deeds and Landmark Title of Racine, Inc. announced that the inaugural electronic recording (eRecording) of a deed in Racine County, Wisconsin occurred on February 19th, 2008. The historic transaction marked the first time a deed has been electronically transmitted to and recorded by the register of deeds office within the County.

eRecording is the process of submitting, receiving, and processing, via a secure Internet site, documents for recording that have traditionally been delivered to the county for recording by runner, express mail, or courier service. eRecording offers recorders the ability to simplify and accelerate all aspects of the recording process, dramatically shortening the Gap and improving auditability.

Register of Deeds Jim Ladwig remarked, “Electronic recording of documents is increasing in popularity. The acceptance of deeds and mortgages will just continue to increase. Electronic recording of these types of documents will benefit all parties involved and will assist in my continuing efforts to increase the efficiency of the Register of Deeds office in Racine County.”

And according to Eric Peterson, Landmark Title of Racine, Inc. Vice President, “Landmark Title of Racine, Inc. continues to be proactive in advances in technology within our industry. We are honored to be part of this historic event which will mold the future of real estate document recording in Racine County.”

More than a mere trend in land record document submission, eRecording is a government priority. Federal (ESIGN) and state legislation (UETA, URPERA) have established the legal basis for secure electronic recording, and dozens of states and counties are already eRecording today.

"Simplifile is privileged to have partnered with both the Racine County Register of Deeds Office and Landmark Title of Racine to usher in the eRecording of deeds and many other property document types in Wisconsin,” said Paul Clifford, President of Simplifile. “Jim Ladwig and his staff along with the management of Landmark Title of Racine are demonstrating leadership in the national effort to make the land record submission and recording process more efficient and secure through the use of technology. Based on our experience providing eRecording services through an ever-expanding nationwide eRecording network, companies such as Landmark Title that file documents with the Racine County Register of Deeds Office will enjoy significant productivity gains and enhanced filing and recording services by eRecording with Simplifile.”
