At first he didn’t realise that he had recovered a small treasure trove. The landlord had, after all, asked him to dispose of the lot so everything not completely destroyed in the fire landed in a large container. An expert at house-clearance whose hobby is collecting art magazines, the receiver looked through the skip before emptying it and found various art magazines he was taken with. He took them home with him for his little collection and discovered that several drawings were interleaved among the illustrated magazines. Recently his attention was drawn to a Zille exhibition commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of the artist once fondly dubbed “Henry the Brush” in working-class sections of Berlin. The receiver remembered the drawings in his basement archives and brought them to Ketterer Kunst at Fasanenstrasse 70, Berlin. In addition to those works, four other objects by Heinrich Zille are to be sold at auction, carrying estimates ranging from € 1800-13 000.
