Nuremberg, December 11, 2007 – EXASOL AG has demonstrated its technological lead in the data warehouse market with a measured performance of 580,729 queries per hour (QphH) in the 1000 GB class of the TPC-H benchmark. This performance mark was achieved with the company’s flexibly scalable database system EXASolution 2.0 running on PRIMERGY RX300 S3 servers from Fujitsu Siemens Computers. The respected TPC organization awarded EXASOL AG top marks for its performance and its price/performance ratio. EXASolution 2.0 enables database queries to be analyzed at least 84% faster than rival solutions. At the same time, the winning configuration from EXASOL and Fujitsu Siemens Computers debunks the conventional maxim that “more power requires more hardware,” since EXASolution 2.0 can achieve this increase with less hardware. The TPC benchmark™ H (TPC-H) has been performed since 1999 by the independent Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC) to assess the performance of data warehouse solutions. The body’s members include leading international database and hardware vendors interested in enabling comparison of the processing performance of databases in handling complex analyses in business intelligence applications. The benchmark simulates compute-intensive data warehouse analyses and measures the speed and capacity of database solutions. It consists of a suite of business-oriented ad hoc queries and concurrent data modifications. The TPC-H benchmark is now generally acknowledged as an industry standard in the database sector. Test victory right out of the blocks for EXASolution 2.0 The relational database system EXASolution 2.0 from EXASOL, together with hardware from Fujitsu Siemens Computers, was able to capture the top spot in the 1000 GB class of the TPC-H benchmark on its first try; with its 8 to 11 times greater performance it left the established vendors behind. EXASolution 2.0 landed well ahead of the competition, turning in a performance 84% greater than that of the runner-up. In the winning configuration, EXASolution 2.0 ran on a cluster consisting of 40 Fujitsu Siemens Computers PRIMERGY RX300 S3 servers with Intel™ Xeon™ 5365, 3.0 GHz quad-core processors and 16 GB of main memory per server. “Customer benefit is what counts first and foremost for Fujitsu Siemens Computers. That is why it is so vital that hardware and software dovetail perfectly, especially in mission-critical applications such as databases”, said Bernhard Brandwitte, Director Product Marketing Enterprise Servers at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “That’s the kind of good working relationship we have with EXASOL. Our extremely powerful PRIMERGY servers and EXASolution are ideally tuned to each other, and customers benefit from very fast access to their data, as the benchmark impressively underscores.” EXASolution 2.0 achieves the extremely high performance it demonstrated in the benchmark thanks to a solution based on in-memory cluster technology. Its attractive price/performance ratio comes from the use of standard hardware. EXASolution 2.0 needs less hardware than the competition due to innovative compression algorithms. In addition, the need for expensive storage (SAN) is eliminated with EXASOL’s solution. If the data volume, analysis requirements or the number of users increase, the cluster can simply be expanded by adding more servers. Standard interfaces (SQL Standard 2003, DB drivers and BI tools) allow EXASolution to be integrated easily in existing IT infrastructures.
