| (openPR) - Oklahoma City - September 6, 2007 – Today 2008 Independent Libertarian Presidential Candidate Daniel Imperato pledged his support to Oklahomans for Ballot Access Reform Coalition and will be a keynote speaker at their rally on today in Oklahoma City. The coalition, which is comprised of the Green Party, Libertarian Party, Constitution Party, as well as independents are seeking to give more choices to Oklahomans by making it less difficult for third parties and independents to get on the ballot. Right now, a political party seeking to form in Oklahoma must obtain registered voters' signatures equal to 5 percent of the total vote in the last general election. That would be 43,324 signatures, and the political parties would have to get 10 percent of the vote in the next general election to remain recognized. "We spend all of our time and money trying to get on the ballot," said Jimmy Cook, chairman of the Libertarian Party in Oklahoma. "By the time we get on the ballot, people running already have been building campaigns and establishing themselves as candidates." The coalition wants to change the law to require just 5,000 signatures for recognition and ballot access for the lesser-known political parties, which often are referred to as third parties. The coalition also wants the parties to retain official recognition if they get 1 percent of the vote. The rally will be at the Holiday Inn at 6200 N Robinson in Oklahoma City. There will be a meet and greet that starts at 6pm. The event will start at 7pm.
