| (openPR) - Open Source is probably the most disruptive movement in IT since the mass adoption of the Internet. Open Source Software is responsible for running more websites and delivering more email than any other software worldwide. The Scottish Open Source Awards is part of a strategy to promote the use and awareness of Open Source in Scotland and to reward those individuals and organisations playing an outstanding part in the Open Source arena. The awards are open to business, government, education, not-for-profit, charities and students, who contribute to or use Open Source Software or services. In order to thrive, Scotland needs to be at the forefront of Open Source technologies.” Soper added, “The aim of the Scottish Open Source Awards is to reward organisations and individuals who consume, promote and or develop Open Source software and services within Scotland, or by Scots abroad.” Nominations are invited for any Open Source project developed in Scotland and or by a Scot or team of Scots outside of Scotland.
