Adelphi University Announces Affiliate Program with Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine

Pressemitteilung von: Adelphi University
(openPR) - Adelphi University is proud to introduce its new AU/PCOM Preferred Admissions Program, an affiliation agreement with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), one of the oldest and highly regarded osteopathic medicine schools in the country. This program will allow Adelphi students who meet the specified criteria to smoothly transition from undergraduate studies to medical school, and prepare them for careers in medicine. The AU/PCOM Preferred Admissions Program is now open to any current Adelphi students as well as Fall 2012 accepted students and future semesters.

At least five students per year (possibly more) will be able to enroll in this selective program. During a time of fierce competition to get into medical school, this program provides a clear pathway for students to follow with a reasonable set of criteria, making the transition to medical school easier.

Incoming freshmen applying for this program will be interviewed by Adelphi. Prospective students must have a 3.5 GPA and 650 on both the verbal and math sections of the SAT. Adelphi students must maintain a 3.5 college and science GPA, and complete a number of specific required courses. Students who earn less than a C in any required course or obtain less than a 3.2 index in any semester will no longer be eligible for the program. At the end of junior year, the students formally apply to PCOM. Admission requirements include a score of 25 on the MCAT with no section lower than an 8 to then be interviewed by PCOM.

The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine is the third oldest Osteopathic College of Medicine in the country. Founded in 1899, PCOM has trained highly competent and caring physicians, health practitioners and behavioral scientists that practice a comprehensive approach to health care. The essence of Osteopathic Medicine lies in examining and treating the whole person, not just the symptoms.

The AU/PCOM Preferred Admissions Program is in addition to Adelphi's pre-health careers programs, post baccalaureate program for career changers and affiliated programs in Dentistry, Optometry, Physical Therapy and Podiatry.
