Hilton takes over Nordica Hotel in Iceland
(openPR) - Nordica Hotel in Reykjavik, icehotels.is - will come under the Hilton banner this autumn when it will be renamed ‘Hilton Reykjavik Nordica‘. This is Hilton´s first venture in Iceland and reflects Iceland´s growing reputation as a fashionable destination for European and North American travellers.

Nordica Hotel is a prestigious 252 room 4-star hotel in central Reykjavik owned by Icelandair Hotels, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Icelandair Group. It includes facilities such as the highly regarded and award-winning VOX Restaurant and luxury NordicaSpa and fitness complex. Magnea Þórey Hjálmarsdóttir, Managing Director of Icelandair Hotels, commented: "This agreement will strengthen our operation; it brings international recognition and brand image second to none. Our hotel is a wonderful establishment, recently renovated and showing record bookings. It is a perfect match".

Tourism is a major source of activity in Iceland and between 2000 and 2005 room nights grew from 27,000 to almost 100,000. Wolfgang Newmann, President of Hilton Hotels Europe, said: “Iceland’s stunning natural beauty and wealth of natural outdoor pursuits combined with a vibrant and cosmopolitan nightlife makes the country a highly attractive year-round holiday destination. Foreign visitors have tripled in the past 15 years and we believe that this trend is set to continue.”

Icelandair offer flights and holidays to Iceland from the US and Canada through Baltimore / Washington, Boston, Orlando, Minneapolis, New York and Halifax. Icelandair also offer connecting flights from Iceland to 17 other European destinations including London, Paris and Copenhagen. Passengers can opt for a free stopover in Iceland before continuing to mainland Europe; either for a quick stop for rest and relaxation in the famous Blue Lagoon thermal spa or a longer stay of up to 7 nights.
