The latest, fiber-coupled L-Mount diode laser module by LIMO offers power of 60 watts for 200 µm fibers
(openPR) - At first glance the visitors at LASER World of Photonics China will probably not notice anything. Talk is of a new version of the L-Mount fiber-coupled diode laser module which LIMO Lissotschenko Mikrooptik GmbH of Dortmund will display in Shanghai (booth #W1.1231). "With its 60 watts our newcomer delivers very high output for the very small fiber diameter of 200 micrometers", Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Andre Gruetz (Director of Photonics & Medical Solutions) explains. "It must be the smallest standard device of its type with such a high output from a 200 µm fiber core".

The compact module is smaller than a compact digital camera (dimensions including connections: 109 mm in length, 25 mm in width, 20 mm in height): It is engineered for wavelengths 976 and 981 nm and is particularly suited for pumping solid-state and fiber lasers. The new L-Mount system also offers a number of new features: The Dortmund company supplies the module, for example, with an protection filter which protects the chip in the L-Mount from destruction by any reflected external beams from a pumped laser system. The L-Mount is also available as what is known as a "cladding mode free" (CMF) version. "The light is only directed within the actual core and not in the fiber cladding", Gruetz explains. The Westphalian company also increases the quality of the beam with a volume holographic grating (VHG) which reduces the deviation of the L-Mount laser beams from the set wavelength from more or less two nanometers to less than one nanometer. LIMO also supplies the precise, high-performance laser as an open beam module (maximum power: 70 watts) which does not have a fiber connection but emits a rectangular laser beam of ten by five millimeters via a window.

Founded in 1992 - 200 employees - 24 nations - more than 300 patents

At LIMOs headquarters in Dortmund, Germany, an international team of more than 200 engineers, physicists, technicians and many other specialized staff develops, manufactures & distributes micro optics, optical systems, diode lasers & laser systems. LIMO was founded near Paderborn in 1992, relocated to the “Technologiezentrum Dortmund” in 1995 and operates today from industrial park “Dortmund Wickede”, located in the direct neighborhood of the Dortmund airport. On 10,000 m² floor space, LIMO runs approximately 2000 m² of clean room and 800 m² of in-house metal machine shops. At present LIMO holds more than 300 patents.

We regard ourselves as strategic partner to leading companies using laser photons. Our mission is to make business partners in the materials processing & photonic industries more successful with our cutting edge technologies. We are world-market leader in diode laser optics and have been awarded for this technology with the “world’s first innovation award 2007”. (Innovationspreis der deutschen Wirtschaft 2007) A laser beam can be effectively shaped and directed by the use of this award-winning technique – therefore, it is possible to create, e.g., linear or rectangular beam shapes. The following industries benefit from our customized solutions: Microlithography, medical equipment, photonics (solid-state and fiber lasers), flat panel display- and photovoltaic production, automotive manufacturing and all other industries that use high power lasers.
