The fish pedicure, which lasts 20 to 30 minutes, involves the client placing their feet in a tank of warm water containing around 100 tiny Turkish fish called Gara Rufa or Doctor Fish. The mercifully toothless fish nibble away the dead skin from the feet leaving them smooth and healthy. The treatment has been popular in Turkey and the Far East since the nineteenth century and now seems to be catching on in the UK with hundreds of nail centres and beauty parlours offering the service across the country. Hagen’s Marketing Manager Jackie Wilson said, “We were a bit surprised when we discovered why sales of our filters had suddenly jumped and we certainly never expected to be in the health and beauty market. However, we are in the business of keeping fish healthy and if we can help keep human feet healthy at the same time, so much the better.” Rolf C. Hagen is the largest independently owned pet supplies company in the world manufacturing a vast range of products for almost every kind of pet.
