?More than just transport?

?More than just transport?

Rhys Davies is providing a round-the-clock delivery service for Castrol supplying lubricants to retail establishments, factories and ships in harbours throughout the UK.

The new contract requires Rhys Davies to collect and deliver up to ten trailers a day carrying around 350 pallets of lubricants for up to 150 delivery points. All collections are from the Castrol distribution centre in Doncaster, carrying packed lubricants from small kegs to Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs), for distribution all over the UK.

The contract requires Rhys Davies to comply with strict health and safety requirements and to ensure that product is delivered precisely to each customer’s requirements. This is particularly demanding when meeting the needs of just in time production and stocking levels and to fit with each ship’s loading schedule. With many container ships spending no more than a few hours in port at any time this requires meticulous planning from the Rhys Davies team.

Steve Apsey, Contract Manager for Rhys Davies, confirmed that it was this management process, supported by a fully integrated IT system, that was the key to handling the contract successfully. “We receive advance orders, notify the warehouse and plan the collections and deliveries in line with customers’ requirements,” he explained. Deliveries range from a single pallet to a full load and are required for delivery at any time, day or night, anywhere in the UK. All deliveries are completed using the Rhys Davies national network.

Rhys Davies also handles very large promotional surges for Castrol that take place every month. “There is a very large communication and customer service edge to this account and the levels of quality and health & safety reporting are very demanding,” said Gary.

Paul Verberne is the Customer Fulfillment Manager – UK and Ireland for Castrol. He negotiated the contract with Rhys Davies and is very pleased with the way it has been handled so far. “Castrol oil is high end product and we therefore demand high levels of service from Rhys Davies, who have been able to adapt to and meet the challenges we have to deliver product to our customers.”
