XING releases API preview
XING is making an API (Application Programming Interface) available as a web service for XING members to have secure access to their data through other tools and applications. The ability to combine information from their XING profile with existing content from other applications (so-called mashups), will give users greater individuality and freedom, adding considerable value to their XING membership. In addition to web-based services, API also makes it possible for users to use browser plugins or desktop applications, such as Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) programs from SAP, Siebel or salesforce.com. The possibilities are virtually endless and remain attractive after data security and protection have been taken into account.
A release date for the API will be announced following testing. By providing an API, OPEN Business Club AG is paving the way for future development of the XING platform together with the creativity of external providers around the world. Business networking on the Internet is being taken to a higher level.
