White Cyber Knight (WCK) to participate in a research consortium funded by the European Commission/CORDIS under the 7th Framework Program: “Mastering the Value Function of Security Measures (VALUESEC)”
|Pressemitteilung von: WCK|
|(openPR) - February 25, 2011 | Magdeburg, Germany: White Cyber Knight Inc., recently participated in the official kick-off of a consortium of companies selected to research “Mastering the Value Function of Security Measures (VALUESEC)”, for the European Commission as part of CORDIS and under the 7th Framework Program (FP7).
CORDIS is among the most experienced and authoritative think tanks operating in the European Union today, and it serves as a leading forum for debate on EU affairs. FP7 is the short name for the Seventh Framework Program for Research and Technological Development. This is the EU's main instrument for funding research in Europe and it will run from 2007-2013.
White Cyber Knight’s CEO and Founder, Eyal Adar, was quoted stating that “It is a great honor to be chosen to take part in such an experienced consortium and to jointly develop the future tools for security value decision support based on highly sophisticated and innovative concepts. We feel that the research performed as part of this consortium will serve a foundation for successfully measuring the value of Information Security, both in the public and private arenas.”
Additional participants in this taskforce include Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft Zur Foerderung Der Angewandten Forschung E.V (Germany), Instytut Technik Innowacyjnych Emag (Poland), Cess Gmbh Centre For European Security Strategies (Germany), Ayuntamiento De Valencia (Spain), Teknologian Tutkimuskeskus Vtt (Finland), Universitetet I Stavanger (Norway), Institutt For Fredsforskning Stiftelse (Norway) And Atos Origin Sociedad Anonima Espanola (Spain).
The goal of the consortium is defining, context modeling, weighting and quantifying attributes of costs and benefits, advantages and disadvantages of security measures, and demonstration of an application tool evaluating the different effects and the aggregated value of security measures. It will generate a knowledge base of the status and trends in theory and in practical applications of methods of economics applied to security decision making.
The great challenge will be to combine economical (mostly quantitative) and societal effects (mostly qualitative) of security measures into a 'value function', one methodology framework and integrate it into a toolkit which will be flexible and user friendly, and applicable to a large spectrum of possible decisions in the security domain. Decisions supported by this tool will be more transparent and better rationalized than present.
White Cyber Knight (WCK) was founded in 2006 in order to provide managers with a better understanding and more effective management skills for their GRC (Governance, Risk and Compliance) status. WCK’s methodology relies on a patent pending approach - EESA© (End-to-End Security Assessment). EESA© is a realization of our vast global experience in the security and IT risk fields.
