UNITRACC is "Selected Landmark 2007" in the Land of Ideas
(openPR) - "Those in the darkness drop from sight, sings Mack the Knife in his ballad written by the well-known German author Berthold Brecht. This quotation applies perfectly well to the work in the field of sewer and pipeline construction. In fact, down in the darkness of sewers things are difficult to spot. This is where UNITRACC comes in…" That is how the initiators of the German competition "365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas 2007", part of the location initiative "Germany - Land of Ideas", describe the trade platform UNITRACC, a project by Knowledge Factory (Bochum, Germany). As a "Selected Landmark 2007" UNITRACC may count itself among 365 selected landmarks in the "Land of Ideas" this year. At the beginning of December 2006 a top-class jury selected 365 landmarks from 1500 applications. So on a daily basis in 2007 one "Landmark" is in the spotlight and presents its idea to the public by organizing an event. For UNITRACC this open day will take place in Bochum (Germany) on 8 November 2007.

"Germany - Land of Ideas" is a joint and non-party image- and location initiative of the Federal Government and German industry, represented by the Federation of German Industry (BDI). German President Horst Köhler is the patron of the initiative. The aim of the initiative is to communicate a positive image of Germany at home and abroad and to gain trust in the country's capabilities and future chances. Abroad the campaign is supported and promoted by German top model Claudia Schiffer. On various placards displayed in cities all over the world the supermodel poses wrapped in the German flag.

One of the core projects within the scope of the initiative "Germany - Land of Ideas" is the competition "365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas". After a great success in 2006, this year the initiative enters its second round by again awarding future-oriented and innovative ideas. As last year Deutsche Bank is the exclusive sponsor of the project.

Any private or public institution and project, cultural and social organisation, scientific research institute as well as company, educational institution or university had the chance to apply to become a "Landmark". Decisive criteria for the selection were the future orientation and up-to-dateness, originality and sustainability of the possible "Landmark". Furthermore, the idea had to be of social relevance and had to show the potential to act as an example.*

UNITRACC, a web-platform which has been repeatedly awarded on an international scale, convinced the jury** by its comprehensive offer consisting of the areas Information (information and research), E-learning (learning and teaching) and Working (programs and services). UNITRACC fulfils all European requirements of a modern e-learning solution and has been able to fill an outstanding gap position in the growing market for e-learning and knowledge management in the construction sector. The platform bundles and links high-quality key personnel from the fields of engineering, computing, media and communication.

"We are extremely proud of this award," underlines Dipl.-Ing. Robert Stein, managing director of Knowledge Factory. "In my opinion the prize also expresses that other business sectors increasingly seem to appraise underground infrastructures. Here, UNITRACC can help to raise people's attention for the importance of underground infrastructures. They are the life lines for the supply and discharge in cities and in this way they decide on the quality of life and the sustainability of not only the major cities." On the open day, taking place on 8 November within the scope of the price "Selected Landmark 2007", the UNITRACC-Team will escape from their virtual world and will allow visitors to gain insight into the underground and to take a look behind UNITRACC's scenes.
