(openPR) - iPhone App Channels Awarded to 10 Cultural Institutions

Ten cultural institutions, from across the United States, have been named the winners of the OnCell iPhone App Contest. The winners will receive a free iPhone App Channel for one year, beginning March 1st. The App Channel affords visitors a multimedia experience complete with audio tour content, logos, images, a tour map, text captioning and GPS-navigational features.

“Access to educational information is essential for visitors to have the most dynamic experiences possible. Every day, we explore the limitless ways of engaging visitors through innovative technologies, social media, smartphones and virtual access,” said Thomas Dunne, president of OnCell. “We strive to offer solutions that enhance the visitor’s experience by making it possible for organizations to share content through every technological means available.”

Below are the 10 winning organizations:

Organizations with a Channel in the OnCell App receive a customized channel page featuring their own audio content, images and video, tour access through in the App Store/iTunes, visitor tracking of the number of downloads, and tour name search capability. Visitors using iPhones, iPod Touch or iPads simply download the OnCell App in iTunes. To download the OnCell App to an Apple device, visitors search “OnCell” in the App Store (or click here itunes.apple.com/app/oncell-app/id387775996?mt=8). Visitors then search for any site in the tour list or let the map generate the closest OnCell tour. OnCell will help work the App into the tour program and can share “best practices” of marketing the iPhone App Channel to visitors.

In addition to iPhone apps, OnCell also offers cell phone audio tours, Smartphone applications, mobile web tours, texting games, mobile giving, captioning for the hearing-impaired, geo‐tagging, and a survey/comment line. The ease of access to tour content through the visitor’s own mobile device allows visitors to tailor a tour to their own interests by self-selecting content. OnCell collaborates with museums, historic sites, parks, zoos, colleges & universities, arboretums & botanic gardens, CVBs and other venues where people gather to be entertained and educated.
