| Pressemitteilung von: CORTEX Biophysik GmbH | ||
The Xtreme-Everest Project Team and CORTEX Biophysik GmbH completed an extensive and intensive testing of the portable CORTEX MetaMax 3B metabolic testing system. This system was tested under extreme environmental conditions, similar to those found on the way to the top of the world, and performed exceptionally well under these conditions. The Xtreme-Everest Project Team is convinced of the excellent performance of the MetaMax 3B and will use a total of ten systems for their scientific program of the expedition. “We have reached another important milestone in the preparation of our expedition. The Cortex MetaMax 3B system performed above our expectations and is an ideal metabolic testing system for our scientific research program.” said Dr. Mike Grocott, Project Leader of Xtreme-Everest and added “We are delighted to have found such an excellent system and on behalf of our team, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the CORTEX team for their dedicated and professional support.” “Being the pioneer of portable metabolic exercise testing, we feel very confident that our MetaMax 3B system will meet all scientific expectations required for this expedition.” said Dr. Ralf Henker, Managing Director of CORTEX and adds “Knowing the scientific relevance for the medical world of tomorrow and last but not least for very ill patients, we are proud in being part of this scientific research project.” Xtreme-Everest – a unique scientific research project: the largest field study of human responses to hypoxia ever performed. Trekkers will undergo a series of tests at several laboratories along the route. Clinicians will measure the amount of oxygen in the blood along with exercise tests on a bike to see how well the brain, lungs and metabolism work at extreme altitudes. Low levels of oxygen in the blood of high altitude climbers are similar to levels in critically ill patients on breathing machines with severe heart and lung conditions. Scientists hope to draw parallels between the human body pushed to its limits during critical illness and changes that occur in extreme environments. This research project will help doctors in intensive care understand how people react to low levels of oxygen and may lead to improvements in the care of extremely sick patients.
