The center is located in UAQ city in the old town area beside the UAQ Freezone and port. The aquarium displays a large variety of fish and sea life found in the region including rays, snakes and corals.
Umm Al Quwain (UAQ) one of the seven Emirates in United Arab Emirates has a marine research center to study the development of fish health. The UAE Federal Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries has chosen the Emirate Umm Al Quwain to establish such center. UAQ has a historical reputation for fishing.
The center was set up 1984 over an area of 127,000 sq. meters.
There are 40 reservoirs for breeding fish. The Marine Research Center is unique in the Gulf area. The center experiments on breeding grouper, bream, prawns, shrimps and a variety of UAE fish. Sea creatures and seaweeds are also examined.

Umm Al Quwain (UAQ) is one of the seven emirates in the UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (UAE), located not far from Dubai on the Arabian Gulf coast of the UAE, between the emirates Sharjah and Ajman to the Southwest and the emirate Ras Al Khaimah on the Northeast. The total area of the emirate UAQ is about 777 square kilometers, which is equivalent to 1 per cent of the country's total area, excluding the islands. The capital of Umm Al Quwain is "Umm Al Quwain" and is situated on a deep creek. The name of Umm Al Quwain is derived from Umm Al Quwatain, which means "Mother of two powers", this refers to the powerful seafaring tradition of this Emirate. Umm Al Quwain offers sun, sparkling seas, desert dunes, unspoilt beaches and beautiful untouched islands, and it is fast developing into major leisure and sporting destination in the United Arab Emirates. In Umm Al Quwain there are long clean beaches and an enclosed lagoon with many islands, and many sport activities.

Umm Al Quwains biggest island, Sinayah Island is lying approx. one kilometer away from the capital of Umm Al Quwain, is a natural reserve for a large number of species of birds, flamingos, deers, turtles and Al Qaram trees. Falaj Al Mualla is the oasis town in UAQ which lies in Al Batha Valley, approx. 50 km far from UAQ city. This oasis town is rich in agriculture.
