Conceived by Mark R Johnson, MD, and Kadence Technology®, the pressure regulation of the Kadence Technology® greatly enhances your ability to breath naturally while limiting forceful purging. This is extremely noticeable by individuals who have small lungs like children but now can enjoy a level of comfort and safety.

The revolutionary science behind the Kapitol Reef snorkel, purposefully places calibrated resistance into the exhalation path of the snorkel. This introduces a small, therapeutic pressure to improve oxygen delivery and carbon dioxide removal from the bloodstream. It also counters the compressive weight of water on the chest wall, sparing inhalation muscles from fatigue, while maintaining more natural lung volumes.

The special design from Kapitol Reef allows for diving and swimming in rough waters while effectively removing any water that may have entered during an inhale. Also strategically designed is the ability to submerge under water while the inhalation passages stop water from filling the snorkel. Kadence Technology, Inc is also known as Kapitol Reef Aquatics and was founded by Dr. Mark R Johnson. In July of 1997 Dr. Johnson was attending a medical conference in Kauai, Hawaii. Wanting to enjoy parts of Hawaii, Mark and his wife rented snorkels and gave the sport a try. Mark found snorkeling to be enjoyable while swimming with tropical fish through reefs but his wife, Julie, did not. Feeling anxious with the snorkel in her mouth she also experienced hyperventilation due to her feeling apprehensive in the water. Dr. Johnson discovered that most people go through a similar experience like what Julie encountered which begun his pursuit for a more physiological snorkel. After nine years of countless prototypes, Dr. Johnson has accomplished his initial concept of pressure-balanced exhalation in an aquatic environment.
