(openPR) - Amsterdam, 28.10.2009 - Delta Electronics is now offering low vibration fans especially for the19” slide-in (1U) server market. Delta’s new fans address the three typical problem areas of modern high-performance boards: air flow, vibration and energy consumption. Usually board fans have to run at high speed to avoid a thermal failure of rack servers. The fan vibrations, which are especially problematic for hard drives, are equally high. The new Delta fans vibrate up to 40 - 50 per cent less in the most important rotational speed areas when compared with traditional fans. This is achieved by balancing the propellers both on the outer and inner edges, similar to a car wheel. Normal fans are only centrally balanced and have a stronger tendency to vibrate.

Starting with the FFB series, Delta offers a standard fan in dimensions of 40 x 40 x 28 (width x height x depth in millimeters) for Slide-In servers. For particularly hot processors, there is the GFB series in sizes 40x40x48 and 40x40x56, which provides a fan solution with two propeller units attached in series behind one another. Both units are separated by a stator and run in opposite directions. The stator acts like the spoiler on a racing car: it smoothes the swirling air coming out of the first fan and guides it precisely into the second. This approach improves the overall pressure, the air flow, and the degree of efficiency significantly
compared with normal fans that are mounted behind one another. For lower rack temperatures, the number of revolutions of both propellers can be reduced without letting the air flow fall below a critical level. This reduces vibrations as well as background noise. It is also possible to optionally disable one of the propellers - if the first propeller stops, the second automatically assumes its role redundantly.

The new fans from Delta Electronics are available now through specialist retailers.
