Press release from: MLC PR
(openPR) - Actress Francia Raisa is nominated for a 2009 ALMA Award for Best Actress for her series regular role on the hit ABC Family TV show, “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.”
Los Angeles, CA (August 26, 2009) – Actress Francia Raisa is nominated for an ALMA award in the “Best Actress in a Drama” category. Francia is nominated for her role as series regular “Adrian Lee” on the ABC Family hit teen drama series, “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” The ALMA Awards will air on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 8/7 c. on ABC.
“To be considered for such a great award is beyond an honor for me,” shares Francia. “The ALMA Awards mean so much to me because of the culture behind them; I am thrilled to be nominated.”
Before her success on her hit teen drama, Francia could be seen starring opposite Hayden Panettiere in Bring it On: All or Nothing. She then went on to star as the lead female role of MGM’s ABC Family TV movie, The Cutting Edge 3: Chasing the Dream. Francia has also guest starred on the USA network’s TV series, “In Plain Sight.”
The Secret Life of the American Teenager was created by Brenda Hampton (7th Heaven) and premiered in the summer 2008 – breaking all records for an original ABC Family drama series and debuting in the No.1 spot in its time slot on all of cable television. The show has gone on to win the 2008 Teen Choice Award for “Choice Summer TV Show.” Season two kicked off in June of 2009, and currently airs on ABC Family on Monday nights at 8/7 c.
The American Latino Media Arts Award (ALMA) is awarded to Latino performers who promote positive portrayals of Latinos in the entertainment field. Taking over from the previous Bravo Awards, this award was created by the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) in efforts to counter the alleged negative stereotyping of Latinos in U.S. entertainment. Eva Longoria Parker and George Lopez will host the 2009 ALMA awards ceremony. For more information on the ALMA Awards visit, www.almaawards.com.
