Press release from: New Concept Mandarin

Hong Kong / Munich, May 29th, 2006 – Expatriates living and working in China can survive but not get around so easily if they were to rely entirely on speaking English. More than anywhere else, business and economic success in China depends upon having some understanding of Chinese. Small to medium-sized enterprises (SME) around the world, with interests in the China market, are beginning to train their staff and senior management in conversational Mandarin language skills. Executive personnel, who need to make contacts or set up branches in China, are now turning to the language institute, New Concept Mandarin Ltd. (NCM), in Hong Kong and China for support. The Hong Kong-based training centre is currently cooperating with the manufacturer Berndes; Arnsberg, the Wiesbadener Management Consultancy; Bloom Consulting, and the German Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.

Lars Kloppsteck has been learning Mandarin since March. Kloppsteck has been working in Hong Kong for his employee, the Arnsberger kitchenware manufacturer, Berndes, initiating important measures that need to be taken whilst setting up in such a large market. With the manager constantly out of the office on business, a standard training programme is out of the question. "The methodology and quality of the Mandarin online courses from New Concept Mandarin are extremely appealing and well adapted to suit my individual needs,” says Kloppsteck. “Being able to use an interactive CD-ROM and the online course gives me to the flexibility to practice the pronunciation while I’m away".

Other than Kloppsteck, the Wiesbadener Management Consultant, Larry Bloom, already uses the training offer from New Concept Mandarin in Germany. The Director of Bloom Consulting, who primarily specialises in Project Management, Sales and Service, offers advice to international companies, such as General Electric and Lufthansa. He learnt Mandarin several years ago and continually brushes up his language knowledge online. "Because of increasing level of interaction with Chinese business partners and customers, I need to keep learning more and then practicing and using my language skills".

Anne Thiesen, Executive Director of the German Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, is also impressed with New Concept Mandarin. She herself worked in language schools and is therefore in a position to assess the concept and quality of the training on offer. "I am particularly impressed with how the senses are activated through their playful learning method,” says the Manager, who took part in organising one of the courses. Due to positive experience, Thiesen recommends New Concept Mandarin to an increasing number of SME’s who seek assistance from the German Chamber of Commerce during the early phase of setting up their business in China.

According to Lars Kloppsteck, the Chinese language lessons have already paid off. “The Mandarin course is helping me to build new bridges and leave a positive impression in China."
