There’s much we want to accomplish

Interview with Markus Ungricht

Through UFO (the UNGRICHT FURTHER TRAINING OFFENSIVE), we have gone on an offensive which has long been overdue but is still not too late. For changes which focus on targeted improvements, one of the first steps that needs to be taken is to be realistic in assessing where we stand at the company, in every department and with respect to our managers and employees. Such an assessment needs to be factual, be geared towards determining improvement potential and be born of optimism. It is important to us that the truly decisive benchmarks of good management do not fall by the wayside: efficacy, performance, humaneness and, above all, the issue of management accountability. This is where UFO is being used to tackle such issues.

We are convinced that we are on the right track with UFO. The first workshops for our managerial staff which were held in September and November 2005 have shown that we have dedicated and motivated employees in our ranks – employees who can develop their own ideas, locate weaknesses and come up with solid solution approaches. Through UFO we are seeking to build upon and foster this knowledge and existing experience: even more efficient management policies, tasks and tools should be developed and implemented. Whilst meeting certain fundamental functions – such as the ability to define goals; good organisation and communication; the capacity to appraise and nurture employees in their performance – do not guarantee that a good management team will materialise, these fundamental functions are nevertheless vitally important. We at UNGRICHT can only attain our goals if we ensure the efficacy of our managerial staff at every level.

This is precisely the challenge that we are seeking to meet in launching UFO, since in times of saturated markets and increasing competition and price wars, good managers and employees - inspired by the managers to tap their full potential - are the best means of guaranteeing competitiveness and putting our company in the ideal position on the global market. Our strategy, which wholeheartedly focuses on benefiting the customer, is the best recipe for complex and stag-nating markets. Providing customer benefit will secure a defendable market and is therefore a vital prerequisite for the profitability of our business.

And most importantly of all: The outlined goals and strategies must be embodied – by all of us who belong to UNGRICHT: each and everyone at his and her working place. We are all called upon to make an active contribution! Markus Ungricht

Maki Umehara at Markus Winter
Maki Umehara - Silver Sea - Born at Nagoya, Japan in 1976 the artist Maki Umehara deals in her works with the articulation of different forms through objects. The converging of artwork and circumfluent space as well as the change in perception of material under distinct outside conditions is locating Maki Umehara’s work in adjacency of the Japanese Metabolists. So the artist maintains a close dialogue with architectonical design vocabulary.
Group show ‘Local Paintings’ at Markus Winter in Berlin
‘Local Paintings’ is questioning the concept of the ‘international style’ in modernist art. Apart from being often associated with an individual relationship to the artwork or the focus on personal expression, the title evokes a connection between the painting and the world outside the gallery/studio walls, a relationship repressed by modernist art theory. The show confronts the work of four painters, of different nationalities, with different educational, professional and social backgrounds
