View on economic crisis and the impact on African IT Services

22.07.2009 Garching near Munich; How long will the economic crisis last? Nobody knows for sure but once the recession is over there will be a rapid period of growth in Africa with its resources the global market will be running for.

For this upcoming future it is important to be prepared and adjust your footprint to emerge stronger than ever. Especially flexibility is required in your organisation structure which Contracting Solutions offer - A model used by over 30% of UK companies today!

South Africa is set to become the third largest destination for outsourcing activities after India and Philippines. The key drivers for this uptrend are low cost and high expertise in technology. Despite the positive trends, skill shortage and political instability continues to be the major cause of concern.

Westhouse view is to counteract trough an anti-cyclical behaviour. Emanuel Chibesakunda, Partner Africa "Anti-cyclical behaviour will ensure business growth when it is planed in advanced".

Today, deliberate and quick response times are more important than ever before. Short-term gains will not lead to a long-term success story. Emanuel Chibesakunda: "The importance of customer relationship and loyalty becomes a key success factor in today's environment."

Today Westhouse has a customer base of more than 150 companies and over 300 qualified IT experts engaged in international projects. Since the establishment of Westhouse in February 2002 its development has been marked by continuous growth and increasing internationalisation. The revenues of Westhouse amount to ZAR 385 million in 2008 (compared to ZAR 307 million in 2007).

One chance of the current economic situation is the development of new business segments. Bernhard Plecher, Chairman of Westhouse: "It is very important to be locally present for our customers and we will be setting-up offices in several African countries over the next years. Our services will span from IT Expert Contracting to realization of roll-out projects and the entire administration of external IT services."

Emanuel Chibesakunda: "Especially in roll-out projects it is important that your project manager has firsthand experience in successfully coordinating IT-project. Considering the respective cultures and languages of staff on the project team is key."
