predic8 launches Public Web Services Registry Web Site
Press release from: predic8 GmbH
(openPR) - predic8, a provider of open source SOA tools and professional services announces the launch of service-repository.com, an online registry for Web Services. After an initial test phase the Website is now available for the public. The site is not the first directory of free Web Services, but it has some new features that distinguish it from pure lists.
Thomas Bayer, the founder of predic8 said: "It is very complicated to explain the complex structure of WSDL documents and XML Schema definitions. We needed something to present this information in human readable form for training and consulting. A colleague had the idea to combine our SOA library with the Grails Web framework. After a few days he had created a very impressive tool, that can be useful for programmers and SOA experts. So we decided to launch this Web Site."
Since the initial prototype a lot of features have been added. Some of them are:
Fast Registration Process
Only the URL of the WSDL document has to be submitted to register a new service. The registry analyzes the WSDL and referenced XML Schema definitions for metadata.
Online SOAP Client
Using the dynamic SOAP client programmers can test and evaluate Web Services before they start to write a client. The registry generates a form to enter request data.
Availability Monitoring
There are a lot of Web sites listing Web Services, but you never know if the service is still there and working. service-repository.com monitors the availability of each service on a regular basis.
WSDL Contract Monitoring
A common cause for failure is a changed Web Service interface. service-repository.com observes the WSDL and XML Schema descriptions of a service and reports any change. Consumers of public Web Services get to know immediately if a service interface has changed.
Service Lifetime History
During the lifetime of a service things can happen. The service can go down or its interface can change. All those events are recorded by service-repository.com. The history reveals what happened and when.
Have a look at the registry yourself at: www.service-repository.com
