Second beta version for Tine 2.0 "Leonie (2000/07)" released

Hamburg - 2009/07/13 - The Tine 2.0[1] project releases a second beta release its major version "Leonie (2009/07)" An online demo[2] for testing this development version has been
deployed on the project's page.

Everyone is invited to download[3] and test the packages and to provide feedback in the projects forums. It has to be emphasized that the packages are of beta quality and are meant for testing only and not for productive usage.

This version includes all features scheduled for the final release. As of now, the project begins the so called 'feature freeze'. As such only bug-fixes and translations could be added till the final release.

With the new modules 'Calendar' and 'Email' the project completes its GroupWare stack (Addressbook, Tasks, Email and Calendar) with their "Leonie (2009/07)" version.

The Calendar module supports an arbitrary number of public and private Calendars. The access grants to each and any calendar could be fully adopted on a individual basis. Contacts from the addressbook could be invited to events as well as user accounts. For recurring events, attendee have the freedom to accept or decline invitations even on a single instance basis.

The user-interface of the new calendar is capable to move events per drag&drop as well as raise new events or adopt durations with a single mouse click. Thanks to the consistent implementation in the users browser, the user-interface ensures a desktop-class user experience.

In the new email program, users could include multiple IMAP accounts. The client supports advanced filters and is capable to administrate IMAP folders directly from the users interface. Tine 2.0 does not provide an own mail-server component, but works together with any standard conform IMAP and SMTP server.

Starting with the new version, the ActiveSync service of Tine 2.0 now also supports calendars and tasks. As an outstanding feature, this ActiveSync service has the capability for PUSH actions. With this, for example a newly created event will be pushed immediately to all mobile phones of an organization. A manual or interval synchronisation is not longer needed.

A complete list of further enhancements and highlights as well as bug fixes can be found in the changelog[4].

The Tine 2.0 project asks the community to actively test this beta version. Users having a mother-tongue not yet fully supported[5] by Tine 2.0 are hearty invited to provide[6] translations in their language.
