(openPR) - New York/Stuttgart, July 2009 – Thieme Publishers is pleased to announce the appointment of Dennis H. Kraus, MD, FACS, to the position of Editor-in-Chief of Skull Base, a multidisciplinary journal publishing original articles containing clinical and experimental information for practicing skull base surgeons.

Dr. Kraus is the Director of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center's Speech, Hearing, and Rehabilitation Center and currently serves on the Executive Council of the North American Skull Base Society and the American Society for Head and Neck Cancer. His clinical expertise is in head and neck surgery/oncology; otolaryngology. An additional area of interest is treating patients with melanoma in the head and neck area.

The journal is to include an increase in the proportion of articles representing original data and the placement of greater emphasis on material representing original experiences. Innovative technologies such as robotics and image guided surgery as well as new surgical techniques will also be featured in the publication.

Under the direction of Dr. Kraus, a new generation of skull base surgeons, operating at the forefront of skull base surgery, will be appointed to the editorial board. "It is our hope to include a new generation of skull based surgeons who have not only familiarity, but are on the leading edge of skull base surgery and new technologies. In addition to head and neck surgeons, otologists and neurosurgeons, we hope to include individuals from allied fields," states Dr. Kraus.
