Syntevo releases new major release of the popular version control software SmartSVN

Syntevo, the company behind the popular version control software SmartSVN, today announces the new version 6 of their product. The release includes several major improvements and exciting new features. Highlight is the introduction of the new Plugin-API, that allows users and 3rd party developers to extend and customize SmartSVN to their needs.

The following features were added or significantly improved in the new version 6:
* full support for Subversion 1.6
* improved project structure and handling of multiple working copies
* enhanced drag&drop support
* stream-lined commit wizard
* new integration with external applications
* reduced memory consumption up to 35%

New Plugin-API Feature

In the SmartSVN Enterprise edition, the Plugin-API has been introduced. It allows to add new or hide existing functionality, customize the Update or Commit work-flow, provide support for custom Subversion properties and much more. From a user's perspective this means that SmartSVN can be adapted and customized to his individual needs. Parts of the new functionality in the Professional edition have been implemented using open source plug-ins, also serving as examples of how to use the Plugin-API. One noteworthy plugin is the integration for the outstanding issue tracker JIRA from Atlassian, allowing to select and resolve issues during the commit process.

Licensing

SmartSVN offers three different licensing models. The basic edition, SmartSVN Foundation, is completely free but includes no support. Commercial SmartSVN editions include support and features for using SVN successful in enterprises. SmartSVN Professional pricing starts with USD 79 for one license and offers volume discounts up to 40 percent. SmartSVN Enterprise for one site costs USD 3150. For small companies a cheaper (USD 990) SmartSVN Enterprise license for up to 10 users has been introduced.
