The Ion Exchange Resins business unit of specialty chemicals group LANXESS AG will showcase its premium products for biodiesel production at the 1st Biofuels Roundtable Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur on March 24 to 25. The focus here will be
on the ion exchange resin Lewatit GF 202, among other products.
Lewatit GF 202 is part of the “Lewatit Green Fuels” product line, a customized portfolio of resins for the biodiesel industry. It is capable of producing biodiesel qualities compliant with the European standard EN 14214 without having to utilize a costly water-wash or once-use filtration aids. The product significantly simplifies production and is extremely efficient in removing impurities that damage engines such as glycerine, soap, and salts.
Demonstrated premium performance
Lewatit GF 202 demonstrated its high level of performance in the Biodiesel Adventure Project in 2008. The LANXESS ion exchange resin was used in a cross-country vehicle with its own biodiesel production unit on board that went on a 60,000-kilometer-long trip around the world. The fuel exclusively comprised used cooking oil and fat that was collected from restaurants, canteens, and snack bars along the way. More information on the project can be found at www.biodieseladventure.com.
Ease of use and cost efficient
Plants utilizing Lewatit GF 202 are compact and easy to use, with unparalleled cost-efficiency. The resin cost per liter of processed biodiesel is only about two hundredths of a Eurocent. This established technology has been deployed since 1995 in biodiesel plants with capacities of between 1,000 and 500,000 metric tons per year.
Mark Seah, Sales Manager for ASEAN/NZ in the Ion Exchange Resins business unit, said “Lewatit GF 202 allows our customers to produce high quality biofuels at low costs because it is regenerable during up to an average of five years, easy to use and requires low maintenance.”
Detailed information on the product range of the Ion Exchange Resins business unit is available at www.lewatit.com.
