N.Y. Lounge Vol. 3 - Vertical New Yorkers

N.Y. Lounge Vol. 3 - Vertical New Yorkers

The photographer Horst Hamann, music lover and connoisseurs of the New Yorker music scene, gave the impact to Blue Flame Records to produce a Compilation, that reflects the musical pulse of the city and also underlines his photographies. This is how the CD series N.Y. LOUNGE became trend and pulse of the metropolis New York, which captivates cool, in Lounge style calm tracks on one hand and on the other hand black Soul, RAP or jazz voices. Different than the two previous albums "N.Y. Lounge Vol. 1" and "N.Y. Lounge Vol. 2 - One Night on Broadway", this third album dedicates itself to the people in N.Y. - photographies of New Yorkers - standing, thus vertical.

N. Y Lounge Vol. 1 + 2 still rank among the most successful Compilation concepts of Blue Flame Records, so it was a logical step to release Vol. 3. The successful co-operation of many years between the record company and photographer to place pictures with the music and music with pictures creatively, has always been very exciting for both sides. "Vertical New Yorkers", is in music more broadly and therefore reflects the facet of New Yorkers better. More information about each artist on the album, is found with the tracklist below.

About Horst Hamann: Born 1958 in Mannheim, Germany Horst Hamann first visited New York in 1979, in what turned out to be a formative experience. The City became his favorite photographic subject. Revered for his innovative vision he became the photographer of choice for a number of prestigous clients such as American Express, Kodak and Sony to name a few. Hamann has spent the last 20 years being a citizen of the world, dividing his time between his native country, Paris and New York. His photographic travels have taken him to more than seventy countries, which are well documented in international publications and exhibitions. Hamann’s bestselling photobooks have also contributed to his reputation as a multi-faceted photographer. Stark black and white compositions have become a signature of Hamann’s work, and he has gone on to develop his own visual language with his panoramic verticals. Over the last decade, Horst Hamann has spent his time between assignments working on personal projects such as Vertical New York. This labor of love, a body of work compiled in his book New York Vertical. captures a unique yet quintessential vision of the American metropolis. For this successful project he has received the sought after Kodak Photobook Award and the Photo Design Gold Award. In 1999 the Museum of the City of New York honoured Hamann’s unconventional images of New York with a one-man-show. Horst Hamann lives with his wife and two sons in New York and Maine.

“REGARDLESS OF HOW HORST HAMANN COLLECTED THIS GRAB BAG OF VERTICAL NEW YORKERS TO COME IN OFF THE STREET AND DO THE IMPLAUSIBLE-CLOSE THEIR EYES BEFORE A STRANGER IN BROAD DAYLIGHT-IT IS CLEAR THAT THE SITUATION ACTIVATED A SENSE OF OPPERTUNITY IN SOME WHILE INCLUDING ANXIETY IN OTHERS. ONE IS SURE SHE IS BEING SCAMMED, ANOTHER BELIEVES THIS IS HER BIG CHANCE. IN THE GAP BETWEEN THESE TWO ATTITUDES, NEW YORK EXISTS. “YOU SEE SOMEONE ON THE STREET,” DIANE ARBUS ONCE WROTE, “AND WHAT YOU NOTICE IS THE FLAW.” HORST HAMANN IS A VERY DIFFERENT NEW YORK PHOTOGRAPHER THAN DIANE ARBUS AND A VERY DIFFERENT GERMAN PHOTOGRAPHER THAN AUGUST SANDER. TO HIM, THERE ARE NO FREAKS AND THERE ARE NO TYPES. HE SEES SEMEONE ON THE STREET, AND GIVES YOU HER GOODNESS. THESE ARE NOT PHOTOGRAPHS OF OTHERS. THEY ARE PHOTOGRAPHS OF OURSELVES.” - ROGER CONOVER

01. The Real Estate – Cubik & Origami 6:10
Being both D.J.'s and musicians, Cubik and Origami balance up-tempo dance grooves with chill down tempo and weave together a solid debut effort that is reminiscent of early Kraftwerk or, more recently, Poets of Rhythm. Between them, the duo plays every instrument on the record, which includes, but is not limited to: guitar, bass, Rhodes, live drums/percussion, vintage synthesizers, turntables and samplers.

02. Latein – Moca 4:51
Nu´Jazz. Ambient. Funk. Soul. Dance floor. Nobody knows exactly what style it is. The 5 musicians from Germany combine music from the electronic box and handmade music: jazzy guitars, Hammond, Rhodes-Piano, synthesis and percussions.

03. Queeek – Dublex Inc. 4:39
When you reflect who is actually responsible for the different styles of Club Music during the past 10 or 20 years, you might come to shimmering single characters. As there are several DJs or producers and certainly the endlessly widespread "Crew", in which the whole gang doesn't know who belongs to and who doesn't. The whole Club and Dance Culture is defined through egocentric people on the one hand or massive "All'n'Together Now"-behaviour on the other. Homogeneous and inclosed systems are rare, especially those, where everybody has the task he does best and finally, in the end of the day it comes clear: " The best things emerge when all come together "-one of Dublex Inc.'s principles.

04. Basin Street Blues – South-Froggies remixed by Colonel Nico 3:05

Nina was called the "High Priestess of Soul" by her fans and was regarded by them as an almost religious figure.
