In the September issue of Office Technology magazine, Jake G. Wang of IDC compares remotely-hosted (ASP model) and self-hosted device management solutions. The article, 'Captain Your Ship: Navigating Stormy Seas In A Tough Economy,' explains how the remotely-hosted model can provide dealers with an immediate competitive advantage by allowing them to perform proactive maintenance, automate supplies fulfillment and simplify meter readings.

After analyzing IDC data, Wang concludes that remotely-hosted solutions are preferable to self-hosted solutions, stating that 'the hardware and IT management required for a locally hosted solution dramatically increases the maintenance and troubleshooting costs and delays and/or complicates the process of getting the latest data and software updates.'

'New offerings such as Facilities Manager from Print Audit use a zero footprint installation model, allowing dealers to deploy scanning remotely without expensive investments in hardware that needs to be constantly updated and maintained,' Wang writes.
