Press release from: Climate Alliance / Klima-Bündnis / Alianza del Clima e.V.

Students from France and Germany painted pictures about energy (in)justice

Nearly six square metres wide is the total artwork of 35 students from the twin cities Strasbourg and Stuttgart, which they painted with the support of the artist Michael Arantes Müller during the European Development Days. On the four single pictures of the total artwork the teenagers illustrated the topics energy sources, energy production, energy (in)justice and visions for the future.

The third European Development Days, which took place from 15 to 17 November 2008 in Strasbourg, focused the local dimension of development. Climate Alliance organised the art action of the students and was present - as already in the last year - with a stand, that gained much interest by many of the altogether 5,000 participants.

The teenagers and their teachers were filled from the art action with enthusiasm. A teacher emphasised that this is the best student exchange since the teenagers have to talk to each other about the common work and therefore practice their language abilities.

During a handing over ceremony the Lord Mayors of the cities of Strasbourg, Roland Ries, and Stuttgart, Dr. Wolfgang Schuster, will receive one picture of the four created artworks in return for their support. It is planned to hand over one picture to the French Foreign Ministry, that has promoted the action, and to the Directorate General Development of the European Commission during the International Climate Alliance Conference in April 2009 in Brussels.
