Fox News broadcasts interview with man commissioned by Dubai Government to launch the Middle East's first international english language television news network
Press release from: Edward Victor
(openPR) - Fox News' ongoing coverage of the controversial U.S. port deal involved interviewing, live from London, the novelist, Afshin Rattansi.
He was the man commissioned by the Dubai Government to launch the developing world's first international 24 hour satellite TV network. The Dubai Business Channel was devoted to a remit that covered business news in a very different way to the Bloomberg's and CNBC's of this world as it connected international stories with up to the minute business concerns.
On Fox, Rattansi said that he welcomed the decision of the Dubai Government to acquiesce to demands from a bipartisan U.S. Congress that the port deal should be subject to a 45 day review.
The ports include Miami, New Orleans, New Jersey and New York and President Bush threatened to use his executive veto for what would be the first time in this administration to clear the deal.
Rattansi, whose new novel, The Dream of the Decade, reflects his experience of covering international stories for two decades said that media coverage of a port deal can often lead to misaprehensions. Nevertheless, he did raise the issue of how Dubai could fulfill its Arab League commitments if a Dubai state-owned port in the U.S. was used to transport arms shipments to Israel.
Dubai intends on proceeding with its $6.85 billion takeover of British company P&O. However, other questions have now emerged as to a senior executive at the Dubai Group who has just been appointed by President Bush to the U.S. Maritime Administration.
