FREIGHT FORWARDERS JOINS UK CUSTOMS AUTHORITY TO OFFER FREE WORKSHOPS IN NORTHERN ENGLAND

Logistics & Transport
Press release from: British International Freight Association
(openPR) - The British International Freight Association’s (BIFA) Yorkshire and North East Region, working in collaboration with HM Revenue & Customs, is set to hold a series of free workshops to help raise awareness of, and prepare for, changes which may impact businesses in the region which are involved in international trade.

Four one-day events will be held later this month in four northern cities to provide presentations on the UK Border Agency, AEO and the Security Amendment, EORI, the UK Single Window and reform of the Customs Code. There will also be opportunities for attendees to raise any other topics of current concern.

Geoff Stark, BIFA Regional Representative, Yorkshire and North East Region, says: “Freight forwarders in the North that are serious about keeping abreast of the rapidly changing regulatory and legislative environments should come along to one of the workshops. Each workshop will only take a day, which is hardly too great a time out of the office to acquire this level of knowledge.”

According to Mr Stark, the UK Border Agency presentations will outline the agency’s structure and its impact on the freight forwarding community; changes in the EU Customs legislation aimed at improving Supply Chain security will be explored; the EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification) Scheme, to be introduced next July, will be discussed; the UK government’s multi-agency information web portal, UK Single Window, will be explained; and the longer term proposals aimed at modernising EU Customs practices will be covered.

“Those who wish to prepare for the changes that are coming in the Customs regime both here in the UK and in the EU should sign up for one of these workshops. Spaces are limited and they are free, so early registration is vital,” says Mr Stark.

The workshops will be held at the following venues:
· Tuesday 21 October (am & pm): Elite Group Logistics Ltd, Wortley Moor Road, Wortley, Leeds LS12 4JH
· Wednesday 22 October (am) Associated British Ports, Port Office, Cleethorpe Road, Grimsby DN31 3LL
· Wednesday 22 October (pm) Associated British Ports, Port House, Hedon Road, Hull HU9 5PQ
· Thursday 23 October (am) PD Port Services, 17/27 Queens Square, Middlesbrough TS2 1AH

Each morning session will start at 09.30 and each afternoon session will start at 14.00. Subject to Q&As, the sessions will last about two and a half hours. Participants are invited to send an e-mail with choice of venue and name(s) of delegate(s)

The British International Freight Association (BIFA) represents UK companies engaged in the international movement of freight by all modes of transport.
